The Lake Dunstan Trail

The Lake Dunstan Trail in Central Otago features 55km of Grade 2-3 track, linking the Clyde and Cromwell townships.

This excellent cycling and walking trail winds its way through the best of Central Otago’s unique landscapes. The area’s pioneering history is on display in the man-made natural features and the historic buildings in Old Cromwell Town and Clyde.

Cyclists and walkers’ journey along the impressive Kawarau and Clutha Mata-au rivers and beside Lake Dunstan, a man-made Lake formed on the Clutha River as a result of the Clyde Dam which was finished in 1992.

Besides impressive waterways and landscapes, the Lake Dunstan Trail travels through New Zealand’s famous Bannockburn wine growing region. Carrick Winery and Restaurant is located on the Dunstan Trail and caters to cyclists and walkers. You can also grab a coffee and a burger from "Coffee Afloat", a couple of boats that moored up half way along the trail that keep visitors fed and watered.

Roam Wanaka can get you there! We’ll transfer you and your bike to Cromwell/Clyde, collect you at the end of the trail and take you back to Wanaka. We can even stop for a beer or a wine on the way home.

This trail is not to be missed!
